I Made a Website!

Updated: Aug 16, 2020

Hi Everybody! Thank you for being here, if you're reading! It's been a very long time since I've even thought about writing and sharing my thoughts on the Internet! I did earn a degree in this kind of thing...but most of the writing I do these days is on behalf of others. My aunt Sharon, without whom this website wouldn't be a thing, says blogging is the KEY and she's a smart cookie, so let's give this a whirl!

It feels strange to start something with everything going on in the world at this moment. There's so much work to be done in so many spaces. My hope is to take this time to reflect, learn and share through the vehicle that means so much to us all...music!

The purpose of MaggieDoherty.com is to keep you updated on all of my musical endeavors in my various freelance acts, with a little dusting of life and stuff sprinkled in here and there with this blog. I've spent the last 8 years in marketing learning how to brand other people and organizations...I guess we can try and make a brand out of Maggie Doherty too! I even started my own Youtube channel, check it out and subscribe! :) :)

A few weeks after our collective quarantine started, I picked up the guitar that's been sitting under my bed untouched since college (to be fair I didn't do much playing in college either...singing yes ((what's up my Sigma fam!!!)) and other typical college activities, some more ill-advised than others. Little to no guitar was played). That's a first step if anything is, right!? It'd be VERY easy to get frustrated with myself for letting all that time go by without playing, and/or to beat myself up for the buzzing notes, the wrong chords, the general lack of skills...but I picked the patience route instead! It's really cool that I get to do this at all, to make a silver lining out of a difficult and stressful time for us all.

My uncle Rick Bolton started a virtual open mic night to keep the music community in Saratoga Springs connected and playing a few weeks into the lock down. For all the gigs I've done as a vocalist, I was incredibly nervous to "go live" on Facebook with people watching me sing and play...but it seemed like there was a generally positive response, which I'm more grateful for than you can possibly know! So I'll keep looking up guitar tabs to the songs that I love and feel inspired by and strum along one week at a time.

I do miss playing live with my friends, of course, and I'm so fortunate to know and love so many incredible musicians to play with up and down the East Coast (and Nashville hi Zac, and LA hi Ceg!)

As soon as we can, we'l

l be back playing together.

I can't promise I'll be entirely consistent here, but I've been doing pretty well with first steps over the last few weeks. Here's to new beginnings!
